"If that is Mr. Prakash, then who are you?!"

When we arrived to the apartment complex after work and rang the door bell we were surprised that Prakash didn't answer. We don't have keys to the apartment, so he is always there when we come home. I called him several times, and when he finally answered, he sounded confused and couldn't understand me. Concerned we were locked out of our apartment (sweating in the humid heat) I called our boss, who told me Prakash was on his way...but he never came. We got our driver from down stairs and security, but they didn't speak English so talking to them was hopeless.

Finally, I called Prakash again and he said he was home, so we rang the door bell again and he opened up the door. However, he wasn't holding the phone and someone was still talking to me! Seriously concerned about the stranger we were talking to all this time, Rianne asked "If that is Mr. Prakash, then who are you?!" We all burst out laughing realizing there was a huge miscommunication.
Dhanapati!
All this time we thought that our care taker was Prakash, but it is actually Dhanapati! We were speaking with Prakash on the phone, who is his boss, so we had everyone confused. Dhanapati, always smiling, just laughed and nodded his head. He probably didn't know how to correct us in English and tell us his name was not Prakash, so he had been responding to it the whole time. Maybe we should try to learn some Hindi!
